The Tyngsbough Middle School was established only four years ago. The theater program was brought into the curriculum the second year. Bringing theater into a sports town was going to be a challenge. The first show was definitely going to be a deal breaker! We chose MTI's "Into the Woods Junior". It was a perfect fit. The cast excelled. It was performed to four sold out audiences. The success of that show planted the seeds for our thriving program.
When the last show in our Year Two Season was announced people thought we had gone mad. It was "Les Miserables, School Edition". People questioned if we would be able to produce this masterpiece with young performers. The cast took a great leap that season and performed the show with great sincerity and hard work. The show was a huge success and the program was lifted to a new level. It was an amazing experience for everybody involved.
Since that production our students have gained a great amount of confidence and self esteem. Several of our cast members are currently working with MTI on the workshop for MTI's upcoming Disney Collection. Also, our program has been accepted to compete in the National Theater Festival in Disney World, FL. We are taking MTI's "Fiddler on the Roof Jr".
