Shelton High School Drama Club

The Shelton High School Drama club was created in the mid seventies by faculty member Gary Scarpa and his wife Francesca. For more than twenty five years the Scarpa’s produced such diverse MTI shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Annie and Pippin. A student body of over 1500, Shelton High School is nestled in lower Fairfield County in suburban Connecticut and offers classes in Acting, Shakespeare, Dramatic literature, Musical Theatre, Voice, Technical Theatre, Directing and Theatre History. The drama club members participate in a Student Directed One Act play festival, a Shakespeare fundraiser called Adaptations and a yearly Spring Musical.

The Drama club enjoys not only participation of its 100 plus students but by their family members as well. Parents volunteer to build sets, sew costumes, sell tickets, create props and fund raise for the club. SHS Drama Club graduates have gone on to study theatre at Yale, NYU, UCONN, Muhlenberg College, Boston College and Marymount Manhattan. SHS Drama Club grads have also gone on to work professionally on Broadway in such shows as Blast! and Bombay Dreams as well as HBO’s the Sopranos and NBC’s Law and Order.

In 2003 the Drama Club was taken over by husband and wife team Robert and Andrea Kennedy. Along with Musical Director Peter Randazzo, the trio has produced How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2003 and The Who’s Tommy in 2004.
