As a professional theatre for family audiences in partnership with UCF, Orlando Repertory Theatre (The Rep) opened its doors on October 9, 2003. Each season promises to bring outstanding, professional theatre to Central Florida families based on classic and contemporary children's literature. The Rep is a place where young audiences can come and experience the adventure and creative wonder of watching their favorite characters come to life.
The Orlando Repertory Theatre, located in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park, is home to three unique theater spaces and a multitude of theater, art and music experiences throughout the year. In one venue, you can find local artists’ works on display, riveting theater from the UCF Conservatory Theater in partnership with Orlando Theater project and The Vine and even a concert or two throughout the year- all this in addition to the REP’s fabulous Mainstage and Youth Academy productions. Our three theaters include The Tupperware theatre: an intimate 100-seat blackbox space; The Edyth Bush theater: a 328-seat proscenium with a great view from any seat in the house; and our third space: a 350-seat thrust that is currently under renovation. At any time of the year, there is always something happening at The REP. This season packs regional premieres, classic favorites and fun for the entire family. Over the past two seasons, we have worked hard to establish ourselves as the premiere theatre for family audiences in Orlando, and our 2005-2006 season is no exception.
The REP’s Youth Academy: In addition to our Saturday classes and annual holiday production, our Education Department is adding programming that will serve our larger base of children interested in the performing arts. This fall will see the advent of voice and dance lessons, as well as a performance troupe and a class designed for those high school students working on monologues for college auditions. For the first time, we are offering a class for active four and five year olds and their parents. We look forward to these new ventures as we build programming based on your suggestions. The Academy’s classes and productions foster self-confidence, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, team building, trust, and discipline through the medium of the performing arts. Classes conclude with a showcase or “shareformance” on the final day to which family and friends are cordially invited. All classes and productions of the Youth Academy incorporate National Standards for Theatre Education and incorporate Florida Sunshine State Standards.
The REP currently is enjoying the run of “Salt & Pepper” by Jose Cruz Gonzalez; up next is the musical “Under the Bridge” by Kathie Lee Gifford and David Pomeranz, followed by “Best Christmas Pageant Ever!”
