The Human Race Theatre Company

Founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1986, The Human Race Theatre Company works to affect the conscience of our community, to see their audience as their partner in the creative experience, to provide a platform for their artists to evolve and explore, and to be an educational resource for their region. As their name suggests, they present universal themes that explore the human condition and startle us into a renewed awareness of ourselves.

The Human Race has over 140 productions to its credit. In addition to the Loft Series 1 (a collaboration with Victoria Theatre Association) and Loft Series 2, the company has established the Musical Theatre Workshop to develop new material for the stage. Productions are presented primarily in the 219-seat thrust Loft Theatre, as well as in the historic 1,100-seat Victoria Theatre.

The Human Race earned its reputation as the “model theatre of Ohio” by uniting artists from across the country with artists resident to the community, and by reaching over 30,000 students annually in 12 Ohio counties with a variety of educational programs, all designed to encourage creativity and strengthen communication skills. Their new Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center of The Human Race provides a space for extensive theatre education classes and workshops.

Seussical was the highest attended production in the 15-year history of The Loft Theatre (the main performance space), with 92% of all available seats having been filled.
